I have Live Mail installed on my pc. When I open up Live Mail my email messages are "downloaded" from the websites of the various ISP associated with my various email accounts. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. The email program I have on the pc is Live Mail. I used Windows 7's own backup facility and I backed up to an external drive.
